Examples of work which can be done for free
Based on the safety and security check:
Safety:
- Fit a 10-year smoke alarm.
- Fit grab rails and stair rails.
- Raise sockets, if hard to reach.
- Secure loose floor covering.
- Give you a nonslip bathmat and safety aids.
- Improve lighting in key areas such as hallways.
- Replace defective electric sockets, plugs, fuses, light switches and lampholders.
- Alter/ lower shelves.
- Refit loose curtain rails.
Security
- Make your entry doors and windows secure by fitting a door bar and door viewer.
- Fit/ replace mortice locks, strengthen the door with a London bar or hinge bolts.
- Fit window locks.
- Fit a device to help deal with bogus callers.
- Fit security lights where essential.

We will pass on work we can't do to other agencies when we can, but only with the service user’s agreement. We will give you information about any services we think you might find useful.
